Legal Paternity & Maternity DNA Testing

There are two types of parentage DNA tests:

• A personal information only test, commonly known as a peace of mind DNA test. This home DNA test can be ordered through That DNA Company® 
• A legally approved DNA test which can be used for purposes such as Immigration and HMPO applications, Birth Certificate changes and the Family Courts for example.

Legally approved tests may only be performed by DNA testing companies on the Ministry of Justice list of approved providers.

Due to additional work and requirements for legally approved tests, these are a little more expensive than personal information DNA tests.

We are very pleased to say that our sister service, dadcheck® are on the Ministry of Justice list of approved companies for performing maternity and paternity DNA tests for legal use.

For legal DNA tests, dadcheck® must control the DNA sample collection and undertake a protocol to identify the person providing the samples.  This sample collection will be performed by our registered samplers with the DNA test kit sent directly to our collectors, rather than the family directly. The samples then come directly back to our laboratory - maintaining what is often called a "chain of custody".
