About the test
That DNA Company® is pleased to be working with PaternitySafe® to deliver your prenatal paternity testing data. PaternitySafe® is a leading Italy based laboratory which is skilled at handling foetal DNA samples.
This test will safely determine from 10 weeks pregnancy, if a tested possible father is the true biological father of an unborn baby.
Using state-of-the-art technology, all that is required is a simple, non-invasive blood sample from the mother and two mouth swabs from the possible father to be able to report for or against paternity. This testing is completely risk-free to the unborn baby.
From 10 weeks of pregnancy, the mother’s blood usually contains enough foetal DNA to establish a match with the possible father.
A child will inherit half of its DNA from the mother and the other half from the father. The possible father’s DNA profile would need to match half of the baby’s foetal DNA to confirm paternity.
Step 1
Call our helpful advisors on 0203 603 1189 or message us here. We would like to discuss your test with you prior to ordering.
Step 2
Choose whether you would like us to arrange a home visit from a qualified phlebotomist (fees apply) or you can arrange your own collection through a local phlebotomy service.
Step 3
A non-invasive blood draw is taken from the mother and a simple mouth swab from the possible father and returned to the processing laboratory.
Step 4
The samples will be processed by our partner laboratory PaternitySafe®
Step 5
Secure results via a downloadable .pdf Test Report will be available within 10 working days of sample receipt at the laboratory. This will be sent to the test participants and ordering party if different, by e-mail.
Sample Collections
The mother and possible father should have their sample taken during the same sample collection appointment.
The non-invasive blood sample from the mother must be taken by a qualified phlebotomist. You can either:
- Book your own blood collection with your chosen phlebotomy service.
- We can assist you in arranging an at home appointment with our own qualified phlebotomists – additional fees apply.
The sample for the possible father is a simple cheek cell sample which will be taken during the same appointment where possible.
Your results
Results will be available within a maximum of 10 working days of all case samples being received at the processing laboratory. The day the processing laboratory receives your completed case is Day 0.
We will keep you updated every step of the way. Secure results via a downloadable .pdf Test Report will be sent to the test participants and ordering party, if different, by e-mail.
From the analysed samples, we will produce a report which will state with more than 99% probability that the tested father is, or is not, the biological father of the unborn baby.
The PaternitySafe® test can be performed on:
- expectant mothers in at least 10 weeks of gestation who have had an ultrasound scan
- single baby births
- monozygotic (identical) twin pregnancies
For technical reasons, the test cannot be performed if:
- the mother has a BMI (Body Mass Index) greater than 30
- the possible fathers are monozygotic (identical) twins
- the pregnancy is dichorionic (non-identical) twins
- the pregnancy is obtained from assisted reproductive techniques (IVF) with female
donor egg and a sample from the donor is not available.
In pregnancies that began as dizygotic or multiple twins, followed by the spontaneous abortion of one or more foetuses with resorption of the gestational sac (vanishing twin), DNA from the aborted foetus may also be present in the maternal blood. This could affect the quality of the results.
Our prenatal paternity test uses a non-invasive method for determining the true biological father of an unborn baby. The test is performed by collecting and analysing DNA obtained from foetal DNA obtained via a simple blood sample from the expectant mother after 10 weeks’ gestation. We then compare this to a DNA sample taken from the alleged father.
The kit contains two swabs for one alleged father. If you would like to test two alleged fathers at the same time, there will be an additional cost and we will provide additional swabs for the second alleged father.
The sampling process is non-invasive which means the test completely safe and risk-free to the unborn baby.
From around 10 weeks of pregnancy, the mother’s blood usually contains enough foetal DNA to establish a match with the alleged father. It is possible to obtain a DNA profile earlier in gestation (after 7 weeks) but this can be unreliable and require a repeat test closer to 10 weeks gestation.
The test will cost £859 inc. VAT for results in 10 working days from sample receipt at our laboratory.
If you would like us to arrange the sample collection for you by using a designated courier service, then fees apply for this service and are entirely dependent on the location. We generally find that the phlebotomist appointment will be between £80-110 and covers the return of the sample to our laboratory.
If you are arranging your own sample collection appointment, then you will be responsible for any fees from the phlebotomist. You will also be responsible for contacting the laboratory to arrange the courier collection or DHL drop point of the samples back to the laboratory for processing. Further information can be found in the FAQ – How do I return my samples to the laboratory?
Ways to pay:
- 50% deposit at the time of ordering with the remaining 50% due before report release
- If eligible, you may be able to set up a 3-4 month payment plan through Klarna or Clearpay – please call us to discuss
The Prenatal Paternity Test has a margin of error of less than 1%. The final probability of paternity will never reach the value of 100%, for both statistical and genetic reasons.
Although the risk of error of the test is low, it cannot be excluded. The paternity result can be confirmed in the postnatal phase using a standard Paternity DNA Test.
The mother will provide a non-invasive blood sample, and the alleged father will donate buccal (cheek) cell samples using two mouth swabs.
We would prefer if the mother and alleged father attended the same appointment for their sample collections, this helps us to reduce costs. However, it is not necessary for them to be together at sampling if this is a problem. Please contact us to discuss this. The sampling kit contains the blood collection kit for the mother and the alleged father’s buccal swabs.
You can either:
- Ask us to arrange an at-home sample collection appointment – an appointment fee in the region of £90-120 will apply depending on your location.
- You can arrange your own blood and mouth swab collection appointment with a trained phlebotomist. In this case, you will be responsible for any fees they have for this and for returning the samples to the laboratory in a timely manner to avoid deterioration of the samples. We will provide you instructions for returning the samples to the laboratory.
You may call our friendly team on <a href=”tel:0203 603 1189″>0203 603 1189</a> or email us at “mailto:sales@thatdnacompany.com” so we can discuss the next steps with you.
Or send us a message and one of our expert customer care advisors will contact you directly to discuss your testing needs with you.
You will be responsible for contacting the laboratory to arrange the courier collection or DHL drop point of the samples back to the laboratory. After blood draw, the samples must be shipped no later than the next day.
Samples which arrive at the laboratory more than five days after the sample collection date will be rejected and fees for a new sampling kit and any additional appointments will be applicable.
Results will be available within 10 working days of all case samples being received at our laboratory. The day we receive your completed case is Day 0.
We will keep you updated every step of the way. Secure results via a downloadable .pdf Test Report will be sent to the test participants by e-mail.
A hard copy of the Test Report can be posted for an extra £10 per posted report. Any further copies of the report such as by e-mail may be chargeable.
Once the results of the test have been issued to the test participants, we can then discuss the results with any of the test participants over the age of 16. Please expect that we may ask for evidence of identification before any discussions about the test.
The genetic profile of the child is inherited half from the mother and half from the father. Therefore, the genetic characteristics of the child which are not present in the mother are inherited from the father.
If the alleged father shows these characteristics, he is the biological father (COMPATABILITY), otherwise he is excluded as the biological father (NON-COMPATABILITY).
At the end of the process, a Test Report is issued, which indicates whether or not the man who carried out the test is the biological father.
If the result is deemed inconclusive, then we offer to repeat the test on one occasion.
Aside from the replacement kit or any sampling fees, this will be free of charge.
The most likely explanation for this will be that there was not enough foetal DNA in the mother’s blood stream for us to conduct the assay. Generally, this is because the sample has been taken too early in the pregnancy. We realise that it is not always easy to predict the “10 weeks” and generally, a repeat sampling a few weeks later will solve this problem.
If on the second attempt the assay still fails and we are sure the sampling has been at or after the 10 week cut off, then we will be providing additional advice.
The results of a prenatal paternity test can be a life-changing event and we would recommend that before ordering a test you think carefully about the potential outcomes and have considered if testing will be in the best interests of those involved.
Please note this test is for personal information only - this means that the results will not be accepted in UK courts by the Child Maintenance Service or any other legal body.
